Functional medicine has been described as “root cause” medicine. Functional medicine addresses chronic illnesses using an individual approach to help reduce symptoms. Really, it is just about going back to the body’s physiology and taking an individualised systems-based approach. For example, a particular disease or condition may not have the same root cause for each person, so two different people may have different recommendations for the same diagnosis.

What makes Artemis Functional Nutrition stand out is our commitment to the principles of Functional Medicine and Nutrition and their application in pregnancy. I’ll go beyond general dietary guidelines and embrace an individualised approach. I understand that each pregnancy is unique, and your nutritional needs may vary. I will help you discover the right foods, supplements, and lifestyle choices that work best for you and your baby, taking into consideration any specific health concerns or conditions.

We will do an investigative in depth interview in order to come up with a plan that addresses your individual issues.

In the postpartum time, a referral may also come from a registered nurse or social worker. For prepartum counselling or postpartum counselling beyond 4 weeks, or if you live outside of BC, private consultations are available.

I use the most up to date and evidenced based nutritional guidelines that both reflect your individual needs as well as the specific physiological needs during the childbearing year. This information is always changing. I strive to keep current with the research.

While the nutritional needs during the childbearing year may be similar for many people, I focus on your specific needs based on your health history, goals, and bloodwork.
